Stay On Track With Your Fitness Goals!

Author: Administrator
Do you feel summer drawing to a close - causing you to overlook those fitness goals you set for yourself at the beginning of the season? Instead of slacking off as the days shorten and the temperature drops, you can use this time of year to pick up the pace and sprint toward your goals before the leaves fall and snow flies. Here are a few tips to keep you on track.

1. Recommit. You started the season with big goals and tons of energy. If your energy is flagging, it may be because you are discouraged with your progress. So throw out your goal sheet and start over. By setting new goals, you will focus your mind and your conviction.

2. Eat more. If your weight goals are slipping away from you, it's likely that you are trying to compensate by eating less and less. Make sure you are eating plenty of the right foods. Add avocados to your diet for Vitamin E and healthy fat. Eat more oily fish. Eat more berries of all kinds - strawberries, blueberries, and even the fateful acai berry are all packed with antioxidants. Eat plenty of salads made with dark leafy greens for calcium and potassium. By eating more of the "right" foods, you will crave less of the junky stuff.

3. Write it down. If you have ever worked with a dietician, nutritionist or personal trainer, you know they recommend keeping a food journal. Are you doing it? Did you start one and then gradually let it go? If so, there is a good reason why you haven't reached your fitness goals yet. Your food journal keeps you accountable. Without one, your diet goals become excuses and wishful thinking.

4. Ramp it up. Even if you have stuck with your exercise plan all summer, it's time to pick up the pace. If you've been ten miles a week, make it twelve. If you've been going to the gym three times a week, make it four. There is still time to reach your summer fitness goals if you pick up the pace and make a last minute charge for the finish line.

5. Invest in new equipment. If you've been wearing the same pair of trainers all summer, you have undoubtedly worn down the soles even if you can't see the damage. Skip the discount shoe store and pony up for a pair of properly made and properly fitted shoes. Head to the best sports shoe store in your area and shop the top shelf - where they keep the good stuff. The investment will provide inspiration and motivation as you move toward your fitness goals.

Most importantly, don't be discouraged if you aren't yet where you hoped you would be. Just refocus your attention and keep going - afterall, you will still going to want to look great for the holidays and now is the time to get started.
